The recent release of Version 4.0 is a major step forward for the BusinessObjects business intelligence platform, with brand new tools and major facelifts to existing ones.
Some of the highlights include:
- Better performance: Thanks to the new 64-bit platform.
- Aggregate multiple, disparate data sources: Database information and information from unstructured sources can now be brought together into a common semantic layer. This means users no longer need to operate in a fragmented environment. Most importantly this unification of data sources can be done quickly and will save not only a huge amount of time, but will reduce costs by minimising the need for complex data migration projects.
- Redesigned end user tools: InfoView (now BI Launchpad), Web Intelligence and Crystal Reports have been redesigned with new and improved functionality and workflow. A great new feature is the ability to build a web intelligence ad hoc query directly against a business warehouse (BW) query, which removes the bottleneck of first having to build a universe layer.
- Simple business monitoring: The new monitoring dashboard makes business monitoring more proactive providing a helicopter view of the entire BusinessObjects environment. Auditing has been greatly improved, providing better visibility of what information has been accessed, and easier identification of people performing these operations.
