SAP business intelligence dashboards provide visibility for improved project control
Oxygen’s National Solution Leader, Business Intelligence & Analytics, Mark Villazon, says organisations, such as utilities and large industrial manufacturers, who typically undertake complex projects with long build and delivery phases, need powerful data management and visualisation tools to ensure projects track according to plan.
“The key business problem these types of organisations face is managing the plethora of information that grows as a project develops. They typically use a range of SAP ERP modules to budget, plan and manage the delivery of large projects and often need to incorporate information from other line of business systems.
“When all this data resides in individual silos, information becomes disconnected. Gaining overall project visibility is extremely difficult and is often hampered by manual reporting procedures that are labour intensive and time-consuming.”
Villazon says the latest tools from SAP provide sophisticated features to help draw this information together, negating the need for managers to search across different systems to find key performance data and supporting documentation.
“Using SAP tools, Oxygen can create a powerful management dashboard solution that extracts key project data from line of business systems and collates it into a user friendly interface.”
Dashboards provide project managers with not only an on-screen snapshot of each project but allow them to drill down and interact with deeper layers of information, in order to perform further analysis of budget, risks and milestones.
“The road to developing these tools typically involves establishing an organisation’s enterprise data warehousing strategy,” says Villazon. “This improves the rules and definitions around the way data is accessed and used within an organisation, and leads to better governance and auditability.”
