SAP BusinessObjects 4.0 leverages existing investment in SAP business intelligence tools
BusinessObjects XI 4.0 has been in ramp-up at key customer sites and Oxygen Business Manager, Andrew Barker, says users will find that it provides a more intuitive interface, along with compelling new functionality.
“The release not only provides a more uniform experience for BusinessObjects users, but it enables organisations who have invested in SAP Business Warehouse (BW) to leverage those existing investments.”
The latest release provides innovation without disruption, says Barker. “People who use SAP BW cubes and SAP BEx query designer will be able to transition to the new product without sacrificing any previously developed functionality.”
Where previously each SAP BusinessObjects module had its own look and feel, Barker says this release provides all modules with the same user interface and a look and feel that will be familiar to Microsoft Office users.
He says the release also includes a new information design tool and a new abstraction layer for multi-dimensional data sources.
“Basically this feature simplifies the semantic layer for the user. It describes all the complexity of underlying actions in simple business terms.”
Barker says one of the most compelling new features in the release is the ability for users to get easier access to real-time data.
“BusinessObjects 4.0 has the ability to automatically collect real-time data and show it on a dashboard or as an alert - it does this without the needed for any back-end programming.”
