Oxygen partners with Prometheus to offer improved SAP plant maintenance scheduling
Announced at the recent Mastering SAP Plant Maintenance conference held on Australia’s Gold Coast, Oxygen has agreed to partner with the product’s supplier, Prometheus Group, the Australian software company and specialist provider of SAP software solutions.
Oxygen will resell, implement and support the graphical scheduling tool, which Oxygen’s Industry Lead – Mining and Utilities, Carl McGowan, says extends the capability of the SAP Plant Maintenance module.
“This tool will be valuable for those large industrial companies who regularly have to schedule maintenance shut downs to carry out major plant and equipment servicing. Equally, it is versatile enough to handle high demand, day-to-day scheduling - the type commonly faced by utility companies who need to dispatch service crews at short notice to fix phone lines or water leaks.”
Fewer equipment breakdowns, increased machine uptime and more work done by fewer people are some of the key benefits of implementing the Prometheus scheduling tool.
“Up to now, planners have had to resort to multiple spreadsheets and lists in order to manage service schedules and execute work orders,” says McGowan. “While all the necessary information exists in SAP, it is difficult to access. What this product does is present that information graphically and simply, merging key data from various sources to provide schedulers with a clear critical path of the various actions and activities that need to be enacted in order to successfully plan and complete routine maintenance.”
McGowan says large plant operators, such as mining or petrochemical companies, have struggled for a long time to maintain a simple scheduling system. “Third party products that interface with SAP and Microsoft Project are cost prohibitive to implement and often end up not being fit for purpose. The process of extracting information from SAP and porting it across to another program to run the scheduling is fraught with difficulty and often becomes difficult to maintain.”
McGowan says the Prometheus product is not a separate piece of software but an extension of the existing SAP Plant Maintenance module, which means it does not have the interface problems typical of other applications. “Prometheus has written code inside SAP, so the scheduling tool automatically updates in real time when relevant information within SAP is altered.”
