Better reporting helps HR do the business

Oxygen’s THINK e-HR networking seminars continue in Auckland and Wellington in November and will focus on how SAP business intelligence solutions can help unleash the full potential of an organisation’s HR system.

Jason Kiely, Oxygen’s Capability Lead, Human Capital Management and Business Intelligence, says one of the key problems HR users face is a lack of appropriate level reporting.

“At many organisations management craves to be more informed and given greater access to HR data. What our seminar will focus on is how SAP BI and SAP Business Objects tools can help provide more incisive, consistent reporting to meet that need.”

Kiely says an individual’s role within an organisation determines the type of information they want from the HR system. “The detail an executive operator wants will vary from what management or an HR administrator requires. The seminar will illustrate what business intelligence tools should be used to tailor information according to the different responsibilities of HR system users.”

Following the acquisition of Business Objects, SAP can now provide organisations with business intelligence solutions to service every requirement.

“SAP BO offers excellent graphical views of information, providing an ideal high level picture for executive oversight, whereas SAP BI tools serve up more in-depth data, which helps HR administrators execute their day-to-day tasks.

“Management typically need access to both executive level and user level reporting – only then are they able to make better policy interpretations and take action in appropriate ways.”
Kiely says distributing accurate HR information to business users has always been problematic for organisations. “This is why Oxygen is now promoting the concept of e-HR and SAP’s employee and manager self service solutions as a way of counteracting that problem.”

He says research shows that self service portal tools, when used in conjunction with SAP business intelligence reporting, not only liberate access to HR information, but enable HR users to more successfully undertake strategic tasks. “When the level of information is more comprehensive and delivered in a format relevant to their particular needs, users can better facilitate change and deliver higher value to the business.”
